1. Scope and service operator
This Privacy Policy applies to the public FormatHive website, formatter tools, workspace, guides, blog, contact channels, and related services that link to it. It does not govern third-party websites or services reached through external links.
The service operator is identified in the contact panel on this page. Depending on the applicable law and processing activity, the operator acts as the controller, business, or data fiduciary for personal data described here.
If you use FormatHive for an organization, your organization may separately control the data you place in the service. You are responsible for following your organization’s rules and applicable law.
2. Local-first editor processing
Formatter, validator, converter, comparison, and preview input is ordinarily processed in your browser. FormatHive does not intentionally transmit raw editor input or output to its servers merely because you type, paste, format, validate, minify, compare, or convert it.
Network processing occurs when you deliberately use a network feature, such as Load from URL, an externally hosted media item, a share mechanism that encodes data in a URL, an issue report, a contact form, or another feature that clearly states it communicates with a server. A destination website or intermediary can receive information contained in a shared URL.
Do not place secrets, credentials, private keys, regulated records, or personal data in editor content unless you have authority to process it and have assessed the risks of the specific feature you use.
3. Information we collect
We may process basic request and security data such as IP address, request time, route, response status, browser or device information, referrer, and security signals. Rate-limiting systems may derive a one-way or shortened identifier from network or session data.
If you contact us or report a tool issue, we process the information you submit, such as your email address, category, description, expected behavior, tool route, and browser user-agent. Issue reports are protected by validation, rate limits, timing checks, a honeypot, and duplicate detection.
With analytics permission, FormatHive may collect page views, tool route, action outcome, performance metrics, and coarse product usage measurements. Analytics events are designed to exclude raw editor input, raw editor output, URL query contents, and persistent first-party visitor identifiers.
Your browser may store preferences, locale, theme, recent tools, editor palette, and per-tool drafts. Workspace drafts expire in the application after 30 days; you can clear them using the tool controls or browser storage settings.
4. Purposes and legal bases
We use personal data to provide requested tools, remember requested settings, secure and operate the service, prevent abuse, answer requests, diagnose failures, measure performance, improve features, comply with law, and establish or defend legal claims.
Where a legal basis is required, processing may rely on performance of a contract or steps you request, our legitimate interests in providing and securing the service, compliance with legal obligations, protection of vital interests in exceptional cases, or your consent for optional analytics and advertising technologies.
You may withdraw consent at any time through Cookie preferences. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.
5. Analytics, advertising, and similar technologies
Optional analytics and third-party advertising technologies remain disabled until the applicable consent or provider-managed consent mechanism permits them. FormatHive house advertisements may appear without third-party tracking.
If Google advertising is configured, consent signals, ads-data redaction, non-personalized-ad settings, and restricted-data-processing signals are applied according to your stored choice and Global Privacy Control where supported. Google and other providers independently process data under their own policies.
In some jurisdictions, personalized or targeted advertising disclosures can be treated as a sale, sharing, or targeted-advertising activity even when no money is exchanged. You may opt out through Privacy choices or a recognized Global Privacy Control signal.
See the Cookie Policy for categories, examples, durations, and controls.
6. Recipients and disclosures
We may disclose personal data to infrastructure, database, security, monitoring, analytics, advertising, content delivery, customer-support, and professional-service providers acting under appropriate terms. Providers receive only the data reasonably necessary for their role.
We may disclose data when required by law, valid legal process, or a competent authority; to protect users, the public, rights, property, or service security; or in connection with a merger, financing, reorganization, acquisition, insolvency, or transfer of assets, subject to applicable safeguards.
We do not represent that every external link, imported URL, embedded video, ad, or third-party service is operated by FormatHive. Review the destination’s privacy terms before interacting with it.
7. Retention
We retain personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the stated purposes, legal obligations, dispute resolution, security, and enforcement. Different records have different retention periods.
- The privacy-choice cookie is configured for 180 days, unless you clear it or a new policy version requires a new choice.
- First-party aggregate analytics may be retained for up to 25 months unless a shorter operational setting applies.
- Tool issue reports may be retained for up to 365 days after closure, then deleted or de-identified unless needed for security, legal claims, or a longer legal requirement.
- Security and rate-limit records are kept for the shortest practical period consistent with investigation, abuse prevention, and legal obligations.
- Browser-side drafts and preferences remain on your device until their application expiry, you clear them, or your browser removes them.
8. International data transfers
FormatHive and its providers may process data in countries other than yours. Where required, we use recognized transfer mechanisms such as adequacy decisions, contractual safeguards, or another lawful basis, and assess supplementary measures where appropriate.
Third-party advertising, analytics, hosting, and support providers may maintain their own international transfer arrangements. Their policies provide additional details.
9. Security
We use technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the service, including secure transport, input validation, payload limits, same-origin checks, rate limits, restricted administrative access, audit records, secure headers, and local-first editor processing.
No system or transmission is completely secure. You are responsible for protecting your device, browser session, shared links, and any data you choose to process. Notify us promptly if you believe the service or your information has been compromised.
10. Your privacy rights and choices
Depending on your location and the circumstances, you may have rights to information, access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, objection, consent withdrawal, opt out of sale or sharing or targeted advertising, limit certain sensitive-data uses, appeal a decision, nominate another person, and complain to a regulator.
Use the Data Rights page for request instructions. We may verify your identity and authority, limit a request where permitted by law, and retain a minimal record of the request. We will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising a right.
Browser signals such as Global Privacy Control are honored for sale, sharing, and targeted-advertising opt-out purposes where legally applicable. You can also change Cookie preferences at any time.
11. Regional supplements
European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland: you may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, consent withdrawal, and complaint to your local supervisory authority. Where required for personalized ads in these regions, a Google-certified consent management platform must be configured before such ads are enabled.
United States: residents of California and other states with comprehensive privacy laws may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, obtain a portable copy, opt out of sale, sharing, targeted advertising, or certain profiling, limit certain sensitive-data uses, use an authorized agent, and appeal where applicable. FormatHive does not sell personal data for money. Advertising disclosures may nevertheless qualify as sale or sharing under some laws.
India: where the Digital Personal Data Protection Act and its rules apply, you may withdraw consent and request access to processing information, correction, completion, updating, erasure, grievance redressal, and nomination as provided by law. Required notices and consent requests should be clear and separately understandable.
Brazil: where the LGPD applies, you may request confirmation, access, correction, anonymization, blocking, deletion, portability where regulated, information about sharing, consent withdrawal, review of qualifying automated decisions, and petition the ANPD.
Canada: you may request access and correction, challenge compliance, and withdraw consent subject to legal or contractual restrictions. Interest-based advertising must provide meaningful notice and an effective opt-out where required.
Australia and New Zealand: applicable privacy principles may provide transparency, access, correction, complaint, security, and cross-border disclosure protections.
Japan and other Asia-Pacific jurisdictions: applicable law may provide notice, purpose limitation, access, correction, deletion or suspension, and safeguards for third-party or cross-border disclosures.
These summaries do not limit rights available under law. Requirements vary by jurisdiction, service role, and processing context.
12. Children
FormatHive is a general developer utility and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from a child below the applicable digital-consent age without legally sufficient authorization.
Do not use optional personalized advertising for known child-directed experiences. If you believe a child supplied personal data improperly, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
13. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the service, providers, or law changes. Material changes will be indicated by the updated date and, where required, a prominent notice or renewed consent.
Contact the privacy address in the contact panel for privacy questions or requests. You may also contact the appropriate supervisory authority or regulator in your region.
